Be Safe - Always use a Corgi Gas registered installer!
at Eclipse we are Corgi registered (Corgi Reg'd no: 202 495).

When gas is used correctly and with respect it is a safe and economical fuel. To make sure you and your family remain safe from the possible dangers of gas, follow these simple steps to gas safety:

Ensure appliances are checked for safety annually by a CORGI Registered Installer

Be cautious when buying second hand appliances. Do not save on safety.

Never be tempted to DIY with gas.

If you live in rented accommodation, you should insist on seeing your landlord's gas safety certificate, which shows that the appliances he owns have been checked for safety by a CORGI Registered Installer. Your landlord is legally obliged to annually check this appliance and should provide you with written proof of these checks. GAS FACTSIMPORTANT! What to do if you suspect a Gas Leak

If you smell gas:

DO : Turn off the gas supply at the meter
Open doors and windows

DON'T : Smoke
Use naked flames

Turn electric switches on or off Call Transco's gas emergency service on 0800 111 999
Transco operates their round-the-clock 365-days-a-year emergency service for gas escapes. They will stop an escape in the home or in the street free of charge.

If you need a Transco engineer at your property, the engineer will carry out a soundness test at the meter to establish whether there is an escape on the customer side of the emergency control valve. This done, the engineer will inspect gas appliances and installations in the property, evaluating if there is any immediate danger, whether there is an "At Risk" situation, a "concern for safety" or whether the property is safe.
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of having a gas appliance checked on a regular basis, normally every 12 months.
Always use a Corgi Registered Installer

Don't DIY with GAS

Gas is safe in the hands of an expert but in unqualified hands the results can be disastrous. A significant amount of gas work carried out by non-registered installers has been found to have serious safety defects. That's why, by law, all installation businesses carrying out gas work for you must be registered with CORGI. DIY can be great fun and a great way to save money. But never DIY with gas. You could be breaking the law, you could be endangering lives It's not worth it.

Be safe.
Ensure your gas appliances are checked for safety annually, and only employ a CORGI Registered Installer. Don't try to save on safety. You may end up paying far more.
CORGI Registered Installers will also make sure that your appliances meet all gas safety and building regulations and that you have the necessary documentation you may need to sell your house in the future. If you are having a gas appliance installed or exchanged in your home, click here for further information on changes to the regulations. Danger Signs

Properly installed appliances that are checked regularly by CORGI Registered Installers should be safe. However, if you notice any of the following telltale danger signs, you should switch off the appliance immediately and notify your registered installer. Some things to look out for include:
Soot around the appliance
A yellow or orange lazy flame
Excessive condensation in the room where the appliance is installed

Gas Fires
A modern gas fire that is designed to look like a ‘real fire' means that the flames would normally show some signs of yellow instead of the normal blue.
However, with this gas fire, the danger signs are that the flames are elongated and orange in appearance. There is also a build up of soot on the back of the appliance that should not happen with a gas appliance.
If a gas fire shows signs of distress as a result of age and inadequate servicing. Signs to look for are discolouration at the bottom of the fire and ‘yellowing' of white ceramic radiants

Also signs of distress are black marks caused by products of combustion (fumes) that have failed to exit the appliance via the flue (or chimney) on both the gas fire and the wall immediately above.
Gas Boilers
The gas boiler shown in this photograph again has black marks on the white case indicating that the products of combustion (fumes) are not being correctly removed.
We recommend all gas appliances are serviced once a year. By law this is a recommended Health & Safety requirement.

The CO Danger Signs:

CO - The Silent Killer

Invisible, odourless and tasteless - carbon monoxide (CO) lives up to its name as the silent killer. Beware! Exposure to relatively low levels of this highly poisonous gas can cause brain damage or death.
CO can be produced when a gas appliance has not been correctly installed or maintained, or a flue or chimney has become blocked.
If you suspect a gas leak or an escape of gas, call the Transco 24-hour emergency service on 0800 111 999.

Physical symptoms of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning can include:
Drowsiness, headaches, nausea or pains in the chest when using a gas appliance, switch it off immediately, contact a doctor and mention the possibility of CO poisoning.
